We’re looking for a BackEnd Engineer.
The Core Team is the backbone of Translated's engineering organization. We own and evolve the backend systems and orchestration layer that powers how the company operates - from internal tooling and automations to translator-facing platforms and operational workflows.

If you care about writing clean, reliable backend code that real people depend on every day - translators, operations teams, and colleagues across the company - this is your team.

You'll work on meaningful problems: designing and building internal platforms, automating complex workflows, and improving the tools that help Translated scale efficiently. You'll collaborate closely with other engineers, product stakeholders, and non-technical users - and you'll have real ownership of what you build.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and internal platforms used across the company
• Own features and projects end-to-end, from technical design to production
• Contribute to automation and orchestration systems that improve operational efficiency
• Participate in code reviews — both giving and receiving thoughtful feedback
• Write tests and take code quality seriously (without being dogmatic about it)
• Collaborate with teammates across engineering, product, and operations
• Write clear technical documentation that others can actually use

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in backend software development
• Proficiency in Node.js (TypeScript and JavaScript)
• Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases (MySQL)
• Solid understanding of server-side web application architectures
• Comfortable working with Docker and containerized environments
• Proficiency in Git and GitHub-based workflows
• Enjoys owning problems end-to-end and will go out of their way to acquire whatever knowledge it takes to get the job done
• Excellent communication skills - able to talk about technical topics with non-technical people clearly and without condescension

Nice to Have

• Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with Docker Swarm or Kubernetes
• Experience with AWS services (especially S3, Lambda, SQS, EC2)
• Knowledge of Test Driven Development principles
• Experience with the Koa web framework
• Linux shell scripting and Unix system administration
